boy or girl revisited a/k/a really scientific tests

I made the mistake of doing a web search on baby gender prediction. Again, we don’t care either way, but I became fascinated by the crap out there. Do people believe this stuff?
Of course some of these results must be true and you figure the predictions have a 50% chance of being right, so the odds are in the publishers’ favor.

This Chinese Gender Chart says BOY and so does this one.

About.com says you are having a boy if:
· you are carrying your baby low
· the baby is very active
· you are craving salt
· a wedding ring suspended on a string over your belly rocks back and forth and not in a circle
· the baby's heart rate is less than 140 beats per minute
· you didn't have a lot of morning sickness in the first trimester
· your feet are cold

Not really any of these apply to Lois.

I also read these:
- Drop a key on the floor, if mommy picks it up by skinny end, it’s one thing, if the fat end it’s another (can’t remember which is which)
- Is daddy (or co-mommy?) gaining weight too?

Many of these sites require payment to find out your gender prediction results. Don’t think I need to go that far!

Fortunebaby.com charges $17.95 for “scientifically proven results” but that includes a relaxation CD.

Boy or Girl.com only charges $2.99 but I still don’t know if I care enough.

There are also books on the subject….

Baby Girl or Baby Boy?

Here’s another one from About.com

First of all you have to know the date that you OVULATED by that, you have to know the first day of you LMP then you take how old you are on the day you ovulated and add the numbers together.
EXAMPLE:
EXAMPLE:
My LMP was Feb 18 Thursday 1998
Ovulation Date March 4th 1998
Age at the time was 29
That equals 33
Even numbers mean a girl baby
Odd numbers mean a boy baby

I think I get it….
Lois’ LMP was May 10 Wednesday 2006
Ovulation Date was May 25 2006
Age at the time was 38
That equals 63?

So it’s a boy, right?

And Finally….

We took the test at Childbirth.org and here are our results!

You have a 26% Chance it’s a boy
You have a 73% Chance it’s a girl

And Here's Why...

-You are carrying the extra weight around the hips and bottom, so it's a girl.
-The hair on your legs is not growing any faster during your preganacy, so it's a girl.
-Girls are carried high. You are going to have a girl.
-Sleeping in a bed with your pillow to the north indicates that you will be having a boy.
-Your feet are not colder than they were before pregnancy. You are having a girl.
-You prefer the heel of a loaf of bread. You are having a boy.
-Dad-to-be hasn't been gaining weight along with Mom-to-be, so it will be a girl.
-The maternal grandmother has gray hair, so a boy will be born.
-You had morning sickness early in pregnancy, so you are expecting a girl.
-You are looking particularly good during pregnancy. Therefore, it must be a boy, because girls steal their mother's looks.
-Your chest development has been quite dramatic during pregnancy. You should expect a girl.
-Since the sum of the mother's age at conception and the number of the month of conception is an odd number, it will be a girl.
-A needle on a thread held over you belly moves from side-to-side, so it will be a girl.
-Your urine is a bright neon yellow color, so you will have a boy.
-You are craving sweets, which means that it is a girl.
-Your nose hasn't changed during pregnancy, which indicates a girl.
-You have been craving fruits, so it is a girl.
-Your baby's heart rate is 140 or more beats per minute, so it's a girl.
-You must have orange juice every day, so it's a girl.
-You are not having headaches, so it's a girl.
-Your belly looks like a watermelon, so it's a girl.
-You show them the palm of your hand, so it's a girl.
-You use the handle, so it's a boy.

So, it’s a girl? And I’m right!!!! (Lois still thinks Chubby is a boy!)

As you may notice, 73% and 26% does not equal 100%. Does this mean there’s a 1% chance we are having a puppy?

LOL that is so funny!!

BB and I are having a boy. But many of the things (and I mean over 75%) that in your test say girl, BB had, and we know that we are 100% having a boy.

I think you guys are just gonna have to wait til Chubby comes out, or atleast until a couple ultrasounds finally unveil the mystery!

But it sure is fun guessing isn't it!! :)

That is funny! Those sites are hilarious. I love all of the reasons for it being a boy or girl. Who knew? I guess we can ditch the ultrasounds because there are scientific methods out there that can tell us early on. ;)

I still think you're having a boy. :-P

In truth, nothing is certain until the child emerges! My sister had 3 ultrasounds and was told her 2nd child was a boy (they even pointed out the jewels as proof) and yet a girl emerged on delivery day!

Fortunately, my sis stuck mainly with gender-neutral items when preparing for baby #2 so the surprise didn't involve changing out all the blue for pink!

Oh...and according to all the Chinese charts etc, we're supposed to have a girl. We'll see....
